March 2017
Eziko students recently had an intensive training programme at the Caturra Coffee Training Centre.  While it was tough to get the coffee made to 'perfection', here the students proudly display their certificates of graduation. Congratulations to all and Thank You Caturra for your support.  Now you know where to find some talented baristas!

Past Student - Present Sucess. July 2015

linda makamba

This is Linda Makamba who graduated from Eziko in 2013. Before her time at Eziko, Linda was unemployed and struggling. ”Eziko helped me realize my full potential,” she says.”I have always loved cooking, but Eziko broadened my mind about cooking and hygiene and inspired me to start my own business”.

At present, Linda works at Cape Milner Hotel in Cape town as an assistant chef which has helped her gain experience about the operations of the hospitality industry. Linda now plans to use this knowledge to open her own restaurant/catering & events company in Langa to cater for tourists and local communities.  “Eziko will help me put together a concept to present to the Langa Development Forum. They will also put me in contact with an organization that gives loans for business start-ups.” she says.

Linda visits the centre regularly to get new information and to keep up with Eziko’s developments - so you might have a chance to meet her there!

Film crew visits Eziko - November 2013

Ready, Set, Film!  Eziko was very excited to be selected as the site for the filming of a Japanese commerical for a sweet potato liquor called Shochu. They wanted to emphasis the nutritious value of sweet potato, so asked students of Eziko to cook some of the local favourites.  We would enjoy hearing from anyone who might travel to Japan and see the commercial!

Easter at Eziko - April 2012

The local children enjoyed the morning making Easter pictures, painting eggs (and themselves!) and an Easter Treat hunt in the school gardens. While the ladies of the community learned how to make Hot Cross Buns!  After the demonstrations, they each were treated to a freshly baked hot cross bun and freshly brewed filter coffee. Our sponsors for the day were Safari, Moirs, Nulaid Eggs, and Caturra Coffee.

Group Braai’s
What better way to experience South African cuisine than to cook it yourself?!  It is great fun for many visitors who find their way to Eziko.  David, our Head Chef – and who also appeared on the TV series ‘ Master Chef’, leads the group to ensure the traditional methods and recipes are followed!
